Iporuru has long been used by the native Peruvians for it's effectiveness in treating osteoarthritis. It is excellent in support of muscle and joint structures and it increases flexibility and range of motion.

The indigenous peoples have also used it to treat rheumatism, arthritis, sore muscles and colds. One tablespoon of bark decoction has been taken before meals for diarrhea.

Harvesting of the bark of this valuable shrub is limited to the dry deason in the Amazon, mainly because that is when the active ingredients are present in the bark.
